In 2018, selected for the list of 'One Hundred Outstanding Private Entrepreneurs in 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up' by the Central United Front Work Department and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, also named 'Economic News Person of the Year' in 2019, and included in Forbes magazine's list of 'International Business Leaders' in 2019.

In September 1991, Huawei rented the third floor of an industrial building in Haoyecun, Bao'an District, Shenzhen to develop a program-controlled switch. More than fifty young employees followed Ren Zhengfei to this dilapidated factory to embark on their perilous and uncertain entrepreneurial journey.
